A For-Profit organisation, driven by purpose
Sustainability Options was founded in 2012 when brothers Nik and Phil decided to showcase what business for good could operate like, and how it just may be the recipe for sustainably conscious business development.
We understand that the typical business model is guided by profit margins and KPIs for profit and dividend maximization. That's not what spins our wheels. We want to be guided by doing good for others.
We also understand that registered charities don't pay taxes, and are constrained by being registered for tax exemption. That doesn't spin our wheels either. We want to pay our taxes, and we want to help as many people as possible by being a business.
We believe all businesses should be charitable and it shouldn't be left to registered charities to be the sole model of charity, compassion, care, and concern. Now that does spin our wheels.
SO, we have chosen to operate as an altruistic business.
What is an altruistic business? Well, it is a business that focusses on working for the common good. We focus on the creation of social value, believing that economic value will follow.
Our Why
Why do we do what we do?
Why try and do business with altruism, compassion, generosity and a good dose of hustle - for the good of others?
Simply because we want to leave a more harmonious world for our grandchildren's grandchildren to live in - if we don't care for the environment or look out for one another, what sort of world will we leave?
Our Waka
Our team of kaimahi are all onboard the Sustainability Options waka.
We're journeying with whānau with our core values of compassion, altruism, urgency/hustle, and generosity.
Our core drivers are people compassion, environmental care / manaakitanga, social justice and charitable good.
Our strategic pillars can flex, but currently Sustainability Options positions itself as being accessible, offering expertise, and as a business that builds the capacity of others.
Our Internal Goals
We have four broad goals that we are constantly referring to as we seek to be a flexible and adaptable business in pursuit of a pretty crazy vision. These goals aren't the typical SMART goals, they are our daily goals that we want to pursue each day.
To help all those who seek our help, especially those who are cold, at risk and impacted by inequity.
To realise the potential of each of our team members in the pursuit of being an altruistic business.
To inspire those in positions of influence, power and control as we evolve our altruistic business model.
To engage the 'many' - the 'wider public' - in our demonstration of an altruistic business.
